History

The Law Office at 116 State Street was established in 1959, when Donald J. Bourassa moved from a shared office arrangement on Water Street up the hill to State Street. Attorney Bourassa was very proud of his French-Canadian heritage, which formed his early client base. Some 29 years later, he was joined by his son-in-law, Daniel S. Petersen, to form the firm of Bourassa & Petersen, P.A. He retired several years later, leaving Attorney Petersen to manage the firm. Rachel A. Petersen joined the firm in 2018 as a third-generation attorney.

Over the years, the focus of the practice has evolved. Maine has an aging population, and the firm covers a host of Probate and Elder Law issues, helping clients deal with aging parents, disabled family members, and persons with diminished capacity. The firm does continue to offer legal expertise with real estate and title work, small business concerns, and tax work.
